Meet Taylor Ryder
Director of Business Development
RADT-I, SUDRC | Six Years of Experience in Substance Use Treatment
Taylor Ryder serves as Director of Business Development at The Retreat South Coast. He brings six years of experience spanning substance use treatment, case management, outpatient program leadership, and group facilitation.
Taylor’s work keeps him connected to clients throughout their time in treatment. Alongside his business development responsibilities, he participates in admissions conversations, facilitates codependency groups, helps clients navigate difficult moments, and manages discharge planning.
That involvement gives him an opportunity to understand each person over time. He learns about their concerns before they arrive, sees how they engage with the program, and helps them consider the support they will need after leaving.
His approach centers on honest communication, meaningful participation, and helping clients feel prepared for their next steps.

From Community Outreach to Treatment Leadership
Taylor’s career began in San Francisco, where he worked with a nonprofit substance use program providing street outreach, food distribution, and case management.
The work required him to pay attention to the practical circumstances affecting each person’s life. Access to food, community resources, and consistent support could all influence someone’s ability to take a step toward recovery.
He went on to work in case management for a larger treatment organization before becoming a program director in outpatient care. He later established his own group facilitation company, building on his interest in creating discussions that clients find useful and engaging.
Across those roles, Taylor gained experience supporting people at different stages of treatment. That background continues to inform how he works with clients and families at The Retreat South Coast.
A Familiar Connection Throughout Treatment
Taylor stays involved in the daily experience of the people receiving care.
His responsibilities may bring him into a conversation about insurance, a codependency group, or a discussion about aftercare. He also works directly with clients who need support during moments of frustration or emotional distress.
Remaining connected throughout a client’s stay helps him follow up on the concerns they shared during admissions. It also gives him a fuller understanding of their priorities as they begin making plans for life outside the program.
His business development work draws on that familiarity with treatment. Taylor understands the program through his direct involvement with clients and staff, and he brings that knowledge to the relationships that help people access care.
Helping People Understand Their Options
Taylor begins admissions conversations by asking questions and listening carefully.
He wants to know about a person’s previous experiences with treatment, the kind of therapy they are looking for, and any case management or legal concerns that may affect their stay. Understanding those details helps him explain how the team’s experience and available support may relate to their needs.
He also makes time for the practical questions families bring to the conversation, including insurance benefits, communication with loved ones, program expectations, and the treatment environment.
Taylor encourages prospective clients to learn about the people providing their care. Staff experience, approaches to trauma, and planning for continued support are all subjects he considers valuable when someone is choosing a program.
His goal is to give clients and families clear information they can use to make a decision and feel more comfortable with what comes next.
Bringing Fresh Ideas to Group Work
Group facilitation is a part of the work Taylor especially enjoys.
He draws on current research and a range of topics to develop discussions that encourage clients to participate. He wants people to have opportunities to ask questions, consider different perspectives, and connect the material with situations in their own lives.
Taylor facilitates codependency groups and values introducing clients to multiple recovery approaches. That includes familiarity with both twelve-step programs and alternative recovery communities, giving people options to explore as they build their support networks.
He also appreciates treatment experiences that involve movement and active participation. His interest in varied programming reflects a broader goal: helping clients discover activities, conversations, and recovery resources they find meaningful enough to continue pursuing.
For Taylor, an engaging group gives people something useful to think about and carry into the rest of their day.
Planning for Continued Support
Taylor’s involvement in discharge planning keeps the transition out of treatment part of the conversation throughout a client’s stay.
He helps clients address questions about aftercare, sober living, ongoing recovery support, and practical resources. Those discussions draw on what he has learned about the person through admissions and their everyday experience in the program.
Someone’s plans may develop as they gain a clearer understanding of their needs. Staying involved allows Taylor to continue those conversations and help connect their next steps with what they have been working on during treatment.
As he tells clients:
“I’m going to expose you to everything at your disposal while you’re here. So when you leave, you can be fully prepared.”
That commitment shapes his approach to both group facilitation and discharge planning. He wants clients to become familiar with the resources available to them and leave with a clearer sense of how to continue seeking support.
Outside of The Retreat
Taylor was born in Sacramento and enjoys spending time with his wife and children. Working out and boxing are regular interests, and he also appreciates a good dessert.

At The Retreat South Coast, Taylor brings together his experience in community service, program leadership, and direct client support to help people understand their options and prepare for continued recovery.
